Biarritz était une destination chère à Albert Fouquet, où lui et ses amis se réunissaient à la fois pour les affaires et la camaraderie. Après des réunions sur l'évolution des vignobles, ils disputaient un match de golf animé au Phare, où est née une tradition connue sous le nom de "The 19th Hole". La compétition intense et les amitiés profondes ont inspiré Albert pour créer un parfum qui résume l'énergie de ces rencontres et l'attrait du littoral français.

"Le Trou 19 du Phare" s'ouvre sur l'audace du poivre noir et d'un mélange aromatique, menant à un cœur de cuir noir et de cannelle. La fragrance s'approfondit avec un fond de vétiver haïtien, de patchouli et de bois de cèdre, créant un parfum intriguant, épicé et boisé.

THE HISTORY

An Eight & Bob perfume bottle, named Le Trou 19 Du Phare, sits on a surface against a blurred landscape of water and trees.

Biarritz est l'une des destinations incontournables d'Albert Fouquet. Après un séjour à Honfleur chez Christian, où les journées se déroulent entre la plage des Planches et l'hippodrome de la Touques à Deauville, ils se rendent à Biarritz. Là, ils sont rejoints par Simon, qui arrive de Bourgogne, et Thomas, qui vient du nord de l'Espagne. Tous deux sont des hommes de la terre à qui Fouquet a confié la gestion des vignobles les plus convoités de Bourgogne.

L'objectif de la réunion était de recevoir un rapport détaillé de Simon sur l'avancement de l'année au domaine et de coordonner les préparatifs pour la récolte de septembre.

Une fois les questions professionnelles abordées au cours de l'après-midi dans une salle de réunion de l'Hôtel du Palais, où ils ont séjourné, les quatre hommes ont commencé à profiter de la profonde amitié qu'ils ont bâtie au fil des ans.

Le lendemain matin, à neuf heures précises, ils se sont retrouvés au Clubhouse du terrain de golf Le Phare, prêts à montrer leur côté compétitif dans la poursuite du titre de champion annuel : Christian et Thomas contre Simon et Albert.

Autour de cette compétition, ils ont créé une série de rituels connus sous le nom de "The 19th Hole". Il commençait par un dîner payé par l'équipe perdante, suivi de la remise solennelle du trophée. Selon la tradition, les perdants devaient ensuite plonger tout habillés dans la mer et, trempés, étonner les clients et le personnel de l'Hôtel du Palais en leur demandant les clés de leur chambre.

Lors d'une des premières réunions du "19e trou", Thomas offre à Fouquet un bouquet de géraniums soigneusement cultivés dans sa maison de campagne. Connaissant l'expertise de Fouquet en matière de création de parfums exclusifs, il propose à Albert d'emporter le précieux bouquet à Paris pour créer une fragrance unique, magique et inégalable.

Dans l'édition suivante, Albert fait la surprise à ses trois amis de leur offrir à chacun son chef-d'œuvre, "Le trou 19 du Phare".

A brilliant addition that might just be stealing the crown

Among Albert Fouquet’s creations, The Original has always set the golden standard for pure, understated elegance. Over time, exploring pieces like Cap d’Antibes with its refined green breeze and Egypt with that warm, sophisticated spice and leather base only reaffirmed what makes this house exceptional: an effortless balance between fresh opening accords and noble, textured woods.

Le Trou 19 du Phare?

What immediately strikes me is how seamlessly it channels that familiar house signature while taking it into thrilling, bolder territory. In my experience, it feels like the perfect intersection of what makes the other creations so memorable: it carries the aromatic crispness I appreciate in Antibes and the spicy, leathery warmth of Egypt, yet anchors them in a vibrant, mineral-edged cedar and vetiver that feels entirely its own.

The frosted citrus and black pepper burst open with remarkable clarity, but once that subtle leather and geranium settle into the woods, the scent develops an addictive, open-air magnetic pull. It avoids every predictable oceanic trope, delivering instead a sharp, aristocratic freshness with genuine body and depth.

The Original remains a sacred benchmark of composure, but I have to confess: Le Trou 19 du Phare has cast a very dangerous spell. There is a luminous, free-spirited character to it that makes it nearly impossible not to reach for. A brilliant addition that might just be stealing the crown.

Yet another Eight & Bob Inspiration; you can describe the fragrance as traditional, classic, elegant, evocative, refreshing or amazing, but to sum this review up accurately, a uniquely Eight & Bob fragrant journey.

If you cannot travel to Biarritz, at least with a couple of sprays feel like you are there!

Excellent summer fragrance, many compliments received, of course as with the last 20 plus years, will always purchase Eight & Bob.
