Inspired by the perfumed gloves that emerged in 16th-century Florence and later flourished at the French court of Catherine de’ Medici, Le Gant Blanc pays tribute to an era when fragrance became a symbol of refinement.

THE INSPIRATION
In the 16th century, when perfume was still a secret art and leather a privilege reserved for the nobility, Catherine de’ Medici brought the refinement of Florentine scented gloves to France. Among her entourage traveled René le Florentin, a master perfumer, and with him, a new form of alchemy: the meeting of leather and fragrance. In a small workshop overlooking the Ponte Vecchio, his disciple Girolamo perfected this technique.
His white leather gloves, delicately scented, became coveted objects among the European courts. They were not a display of ostentation, but a silent signature—the lingering echo of a refined presence.
Among his patrons was Duchess Eleonora de Toledo, who kept her gloves in a silver box engraved with the words “Per ricordarmi” – to remember me. It is said that centuries later, when the box was opened, a faint trace of dried flowers and polished leather could still be perceived: the fragrance of time and of a gesture. Le Gant Blanc pays tribute to those anonymous artisans who transformed matter into emotion.
