IL GIARDINO DELL'ANIMA

Since Albert Fouquet discovered Ravello on Italy's Amalfi Coast, he sought a few days of true relaxation every year, staying at the Hotel Villa Cimbrone, which rose majestically atop the cliffs, offering spectacular views of the Mediterranean Sea.

Ravello is a source of creative inspiration for lovers of music, art, history, and botanical culture. There, in the gardens of the historic Villa Rufolo, Albert Fouquet could spend hours upon hours admiring the floral beauty crafted by Lord Francis Neville, an old friend of his father, and Luigi Cicalese, his trusted gardener. Richard Wagner, enchanted by the flowers of these unparalleled gardens, found inspiration to create his opera Parsifal.

A few years after Wagner's passing, in these very gardens, Fouquet had the privilege of attending an open-air concert. He was invited by Maestro Guido Rossi, a passionate cultural promoter and patron known for his exquisite taste and love for the arts, who shared his enthusiasm for Wagner’s opera.

The magical atmosphere, infused with Wagner’s melodies and the fragrance of the flowers, stirred a profound creative inspiration within Fouquet.

Following this evocative experience and recalling the sense of wonder he felt during the concert in the Giardino dell'Anima, Fouquet returned to Villa Cimbrone.

That very night, he began to dream and experiment with the essences and scents emanating from the garden's flowers, blended with the freshness of the Mediterranean air and the enchantment of an Italian night.

During the remainder of his stay in Ravello, he crafted this perfume, which he named "Il Giardino Dell'Anima" as a tribute to the beauty and inspiration he found in those special corners of the Amalfi Coast.

SÉRÉNITÉ EN BOURGOGNE

For Albert Fouquet, September was the most
eagerly awaited month of the year. He returned to his family’s château in Burgundy to personally oversee the grape harvest.

The Fouquet family, known for owning some of the region’s finest vineyards, kept only a small portion of the harvest for their own wines. The rest, highly prized by Burgundy’s top winemakers, was managed with utmost care. With his refined palate, Albert worked closely with Simon, the estate manager, and Thomas Bodes, a skilled Spanish viticulture expert, to ensure a successful season.

His stay in Burgundy unfolded in two distinct phases. The first was marked by calm and beauty: each morning began with breakfast on the terrace, overlooking the vineyards, followed by reading, countryside walks, and time devoted to his passion—perfume creation.

Every day at noon, Albert, Simon, and Thomas would meet for the berry tasting—a cherished ritual to determine the perfect moment to begin the harvest.

When the harvest began, serenity gave way to the vibrant rhythm of the season, which lasted nearly three weeks. It was a time of teamwork and celebration, culminating in a grand fête at the château, where harvesters, winemakers, and friends gathered to honor their shared efforts.

Albert named his olfactory creation “Sérénité en Bourgogneto capture the tranquility he found in the heart of Burgundy’s vineyards.

LE PARI D'HONFLEUR

The sun reflected on the water surrounding the Deauville-La Touques racetrack, as Albert Fouquet stood among the elegant spectators gathered in the stands, captivated by the excitement and elegance of the world of horse racinG.

Deauville, with its splendor and sophistication, was the perfect setting for race lovers and high society. Every summer, Christian, an aristocrat with great skill in betting, invited Fouquet to share in the thrilling atmosphere of the racetrack. They both enjoyed the excitement of the event while discussing strategies and calculating the odds of the different runners. They had been repeating these relaxing days at Christian's mansion in Honfleur, just a few kilometers from Deauville, for years.

Albert’s passion for creating exclusive perfumes was sparked by the incomparable scent emanating from Christian’s lush garden. Among the soft notes of Honfleur roses, the freshness of the sea, and the scent of coastal vegetation, Fouquet created a unique fragrance that evoked the beauty and elegance of coastal life. From then on, every summer, he would visit Deauville carrying this perfume.

Christian was fascinated by the captivating scent of Albert's creation. He found himself facing a difficult task, as he was well aware of Fouquet's discretion. A discretion that prevented him from sharing the perfumes he created exclusively for personal use.

During one of the thrilling races, Christian decided to challenge Fouquet with a fun proposal: “Follow my advice, in the next race bet on Grillemont, Boussac's stable never fails me. If you win, in exchange, you’ll reward me with your perfume.” Fouquet accepted the challenge with a smile, eager for the outcome.

The two friends immersed themselves in the excitement of the race, with Fouquet closely watching every move of the horses. However, Grillemont finished in third place. Christian, in addition to suffering a humiliating defeat before his friend, would continue without obtaining the coveted perfume.

However, as a gesture of sincere friendship, Albert Fouquet, upon returning to Paris, prepared a special version of the perfume using roses from the Honfleur garden, cedarwood, and musk. He sent this exquisite creation to his friend Christian, labeling the bottle with a reminder of that afternoon at the racetrack: “Le Pari D'Honfleur”.

Years later, Brigitte, Christian’s wife, confessed to Fouquet that “Le Pari D'Honfleur” was the best card Christian played to win her heart.

LE TROU 19 DU PHARE

Biarritz was one of Albert Fouquet's essential destinations. After his stay in Honfleur at Christian’s residence, where days were spent between Les Planches beach and the La Touques racetrack in Deauville, the two would travel to Biarritz. There, they were joined by Simon, arriving from Burgundy, and Thomas, coming from northern Spain. Both were men of the land whom Fouquet entrusted with managing Burgundy’s most coveted vineyards.

The purpose of the meeting was to receive a detailed report from Simon on the year’s progress at the estate and to coordinate preparations for the September harvest.

Once the professional matters were addressed during the afternoon in a meeting room at the Hôtel du Palais, where they stayed, the four transitioned to enjoying the deep friendship they had built over the years.

The next morning, promptly at nine, they gathered at the Clubhouse of Le Phare golf course, ready to show their competitive side in pursuit of the annual championship title: Christian and Thomas against Simon and Albert.

Around this competition, they created a series of rituals known as “The 19th Hole.” It began with a dinner paid for by the losing team, followed by the ceremonial trophy presentation. According to tradition, the losers then had to dive fully clothed into the sea and, dripping wet, astonish the Hôtel du Palais guests and staff by requesting their room keys.

During one of the early “19th Hole” gatherings, Thomas presented Fouquet with a bouquet of geraniums carefully cultivated at his countryside home. Knowing Fouquet’s expertise in creating exclusive perfumes, he suggested Albert take the precious bouquet to Paris to craft a unique, magical, and unrepeatable fragrance.

In the following edition, Albert surprised his three friends by presenting each of them with his masterpiece: "Le Trou 19 Du Phare".

CAP D'ANTIBES

For Albert Fouquet, Antibes was heaven. In this charming village on the French Riviera, Albert enjoyed long holidays during the 1930s in the company of the elite of European aristocracy -holidays that extended from spring until the last days of summer. At that time, only a few were privileged enough to enjoy the elegant and discreet luxury' of spending the summer months on the French Riviera.

Unforgettable mornings were spent sailing in the Grande Bleue, golden sunsets were enjoyed from the gardens of the Eden Roe hotel, and balmy evenings were enlivened with exclusive celebrations and charming parties.

Albert dreamt about these summers during the cold Parisian winters. Like any artist who strives for perfection, he spent many weeks delicately crafting a fragrance that captured the essence of his memories of those summer days.

Nuit de Megève

In the 1930s, skiing was an emerging sport enjoyed by a privileged few. St. Moritz had already become the winter destination of European aristocracy, and among its regulars was Albert Fouquet.

While staying at his friend Nicolas’s home, Fouquet was fitted for custom ski attire by a tailor from Megève, who spoke with enthusiasm about the new resort the Baroness de Rothschild was developing, an elegant and discreet alternative to the Swiss Alps.

Months later, Albert accepted Nicolas’s invitation to a pre-Christmas dinner in Megève. These soirées, whether in Paris, Cap Ferrat or the mountains, were renowned for their carefully selected guests: intellectuals, diplomats, businessmen, elegant women, young artists… ensuring unforgettable evenings.

That night, after a day on the slopes, Fouquet entered what would become one of the most magical moments of his life. He was introduced to Annicke, a young Austrian woman of noble heritage. Her emerald eyes, graceful gestures, and quiet elegance immediately captivated him. They spent the night by the fire, talking, laughing, and dancing, parting with the promise to meet again soon.

Back in Paris, Albert wished to hold on to the memory of that evening: the crisp air, the scent of burning wood, the atmosphere of that unforgettable gathering. He did so by distilling it into a fragrance. Thus was born Nuit de Megève”, a tribute to an enchanting night never forgotten.

Champs de Provence

On this occasion Fouquet wanted to satisfy the request of his dear friends Alessandro and Chiara, an Italian couple who owned a villa in Provence where they went to relax and enjoy themselves, breathing in the freshness of the more than 1600 wild plants that flowered every year in the countryside of this beautiful region of France.

Every spring, Albert Fouquet went from Antibes on the French Riviera to the home of Alessandro and Chiara to share with them the splendid spectacle of colours and the wonderful aromas.

During one of his trips, while decanting one of the wines he produced from his own grapes, Alessandro told Fouquet that his next diplomatic post would be in the far-away Philippines. He enjoyed carrying out his work travelling around the world, but during his long stays abroad he always remembered with melancholy the beauty of Provence.

Some months later, when Alessandro and Chiara were already settled in the Philippines, they were surprised by the best present they could receive from their good friend. Only an artist such as Albert Fouquet was capable of transforming into a perfume the freshness of the exuberant aromas brought forth by the plants growing in the Provence countryside.

Egypt

Egypt is one of the most exclusive fragrances created by Albert Fouquet. In 1935, he fulfilled a promise to visit his childhood friend Ahmed—an opportunity that also allowed him to pursue a long-held dream. Fascinated by ancient Egyptian culture, Albert toured the Great Pyramid of Giza, the temples of Luxor and Hatshepsut, and immersed himself in the birthplace of perfumery.

He was eager to learn about the essences used for centuries—those found in the aromatic jars offered to the gods, in the scents that protected the pharaohs, and in the formulas said to enchant Cleopatra herself.

From the moment Albert entered Ahmed’s villa, he was captivated by the lush garden, filled with flowers he had never encountered before. Overwhelmed by new sensations and unable to extend his stay, he planned a return trip four months later with the sole intention of crafting a unique perfume.

After weeks of work at Ahmed’s villa and final refinements back at his château in Paris, Egyptwas born—an addition to his private, exclusive collection. Today, it is our pleasure to share one of Albert Fouquet’s most original creations with those fortunate enough to embrace his singular lifestyle.
